But here’s what most coverage gets wrong about ashwagandha: it’s not a stimulant, it’s not a sedative, and it’s not a testosterone booster in the sense you’re probably imagining. What it is — and what the research actually supports — is considerably more interesting if you’re a man dealing with the kind of chronic, low-grade stress that doesn’t announce itself as a crisis but slowly hollows you out.

What Ashwagandha Actually Is

Langade et al. (2019) published a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled crossover study in Cureus with 60 participants. The ashwagandha group (300mg KSM-66 twice daily) showed significantly improved sleep quality, sleep onset latency, sleep efficiency, and reduced anxiety scores.
