Field Notes

Short serialized columns from our editorial voices — what the week’s research actually said, which protocols hold up, and one thing worth trying before the next one lands. Written for men who want the evidence before the advice.

Straight about what this is: Field Notes are columns, not a support group. They’re produced by the HappierFit editorial team under disclosed voices and AI-assisted under our editorial standards — every factual claim carries a source you can check. Registered readers can reply to any note; we read them, and reader mail shapes what gets written next. If you’re in crisis, a column isn’t fast enough — call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) right now.

Used AI to write my dating profile and it actually worked

ok dont judge me but after my divorce I had NO idea how to write a dating profile. last time I was single, MySpace was a thing. so I asked ChatGPT to help and honestly? it worked way better than anything I would have written.

I told it about myself — 42, divorced, getting back in shape, going to therapy (which apparently is attractive now??), like hiking and cooking. and it wrote something that sounded like me but better. like the version of me that's actually good at words.

had to edit some stuff because it was too polished and sounded fake. asked it to "make this sound more like a real person who's a little awkward" and the second version was perfect lol.

been on 4 dates in the last month. none of them were THE one but they were all good conversations with real people. which is more than I expected honestly.

anyway. AI wingman. who knew.

Tom this is adorable and I'm not judging you at ALL. The "make this sound more like a real person who's a little awkward" prompt is actually genius because overly polished dating profiles are a red flag for a lot of people. They read as either fake or trying too hard.

Pro tip: you can also use AI to help plan first date conversation topics if you get nervous. Not like a script, but just some interesting questions to have in your back pocket in case the conversation stalls.

Bro the fact that you're putting yourself out there after a divorce takes guts. Therapy + gym + dating = full character arc. Proud of you man.

Also "going to therapy is attractive now" YES. Emotional intelligence is a flex in 2026. The bar was underground and you're stepping over it. Keep going.

Omg Tom 😂 "asked it to make this sound more like a real person who's a little awkward" — I love everything about this. You're going to find someone great. Anyone who's doing the work on themselves like you are deserves someone amazing.
