Statins at 30 – anyone else dealing with this?

Just turned 30 and my doctor wants to put me on statins. Cholesterol is 240 total, LDL is 165. Family history of heart disease.

I’m conflicted. Taking a daily medication at 30 feels like giving up. Anyone else start statins young?

  1. Started at 32. Familial hypercholesterolemia — diet and exercise can only do so much when your genetics are working against you. My LDL dropped from 180 to 90 in three months. It’s not giving up — it’s being smart.

  2. The giving up feeling is super common and honestly kind of harmful. You wouldn’t feel like you’re giving up by wearing a seatbelt.

make sure you get a coronary calcium score scan too. its a simple CT scan that shows actual plaque buildup. it helped me make the decision
