Most men know creatine as a muscle supplement. What most men don’t know is that the brain is one of the most energy-hungry organs in the body — and creatine plays a critical role there too. The one real caveat: if you have pre-existing kidney disease, check with your doctor first. Creatine increases creatinine (a breakdown product), which is used as a marker for kidney function. Supplementation can raise serum creatinine without reflecting actual kidney damage — but this can confuse lab interpretation if a doctor isn’t aware you’re supplementing.
