GLP-1 drugs and mental health – anyone notice changes?

I’ve been on semaglutide for about 4 months now for weight loss. Down 30 lbs which is great. But I’ve also noticed my anxiety is significantly lower and my mood is generally better.

Apparently there’s emerging research about GLP-1 drugs affecting the brain, not just metabolism. Has anyone else experienced mental health changes on GLP-1 medications?

  1. Yes! I’m on tirzepatide and noticed the same thing. Less anxiety, more motivation, better sleep. My doctor said it could be partly from the weight loss improving sleep apnea and inflammation.

  2. I had the opposite experience unfortunately. Semaglutide made me feel foggy and kind of flat emotionally for the first two months. It got better after that but wanted to share.

  3. The neuroscience behind this is fascinating. GLP-1 receptors exist throughout the brain, not just in areas related to appetite. There was a Lancet study showing potential neuroprotective effects.
