GLP-1 medications - sharing my 3 month experience

Wanted to share my experience on Ozempic since there seems to be a lot of curiosity and misinformation out there. M42, started at 240lbs, currently at 215 after 3 months.

The good: appetite reduction is real and significant. I'm naturally eating less without feeling deprived. Energy levels are up. Blood work improved across the board.

The not-so-good: nausea for the first 2-3 weeks was rough. Lost some muscle mass along with fat (working on this). Cost is insane without good insurance.

The surprising: my relationship with food has fundamentally changed. I don't think about food constantly anymore. For the first time in my adult life, food is fuel, not comfort. Thats been the biggest mental shift.

Happy to answer questions if anyone is considering it.

Thanks for sharing this honestly. Can I ask - are you exercising alongside it? I've heard the muscle loss thing is a bigger issue if you're not doing resistance training while on it.

Yeah I started lifting 3x/week specifically because of the muscle loss concern. Definitely helps. My doctor said protein intake is super important on GLP-1s - shooting for 1g per pound of goal body weight. It's a lot of chicken lol.

How did you bring it up with your doctor? I'm interested but feel weird asking about what some people call a "vanity drug." I'm 260 with pre-diabetes so I feel like I have a legitimate medical reason but still feel some shame about it.

Brother, pre-diabetes is exactly what these drugs were designed for. There's zero shame in using a medication for its intended purpose. I had the same hesitation and my doctor literally said "I wish more of my patients were proactive about this instead of waiting for the diabetes diagnosis." Just be straightforward about your goals and health history.
