Alcohol and mental health - the cycle nobody warns you about
Quote from Ryan S. on January 20, 2026, 9:00 pmNot an alcoholic (I think?) but definitely been using beer as my nightly stress reliever and its been creeping up. Used to be 1-2 beers after the kids went to bed, now its more like 3-4 and sometimes more on weekends. I know its making my anxiety worse the next day but the evening relief is hard to give up.
Anyone managed to cut back without going full sober? Or is that just kidding myself?

Quote from Dave K. on January 21, 2026, 7:15 amThis was me 100%. The cycle is: feel stressed > drink to relax > sleep badly > feel anxious next day > feel stressed > drink to relax. Repeat forever.
I did a 30-day no alcohol challenge just to see what would happen. By week 2 my sleep was dramatically better and my anxiety dropped probably 50%. I drink now but way less and way more intentionally.

Quote from Mike R. on January 21, 2026, 1:30 pmThe fact that you're noticing and questioning it puts you ahead of most guys. A lot of men dont realize how much alcohol is driving their anxiety and depression because its so normalized.
Try tracking it for a week - how much you drink AND how you feel the next day. The pattern becomes pretty obvious pretty fast.

Quote from Marcus J. on January 22, 2026, 9:00 amswitched to NA beers for my nightly wind-down. still get the ritual of cracking open a cold one after a hard day but without the anxiety spiral the next morning. sounds dumb but it actually works.
